Former Verve singer Richard Ashcroft has revealed that his new album, featuring his new backing band the United Nations of Sound, has the working title of Redemption and is expected to be released in late March. Also, according to NME, it is being produced by No ID, who most recently worked with Jay-Z on his 2009 singles "Run This Town" and "DOA (Death of Auto-Tune)."
The Verve, who became one of the bigger names in Brit-rock in the late '90s with their hit single "Bittersweet Symphony," split for a third time in August after a reunion run that began with a November 2007 mini-tour. They released their last album, Forth, in 2008.
In related news, Ashcroft recently posted a film called The Journey about human trafficking on his website and is asking fans to download a song he composed specifically to raise money for the Helen Bamber Foundation, an UK-based human rights organization.
"I have been fortunate enough to work on a very special project for a cause that when you learn the disgusting truth you will be sickened by and want to help. You can!" posted Ashcroft on his site.
Redemption will be Ashcroft's fourth solo album.
