The new legislation bans abortions except in order "to avoid a serious health risk to the unborn child's mother" or if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly." Exceptions cannot be made in cases such as pregnancy by rape or incest, and doctors who perform the procedure could face up to 99 years in prison.
As such, a number of prominent female figures from the entertainment industry have used their platforms to denounce the law and pledge support for the women subjected to it.
Rihanna cast a "SHAME ON YOU!" specifically towards the white men supporting the restrictions on women, while Lady Gaga questioned why "there's a higher penalty for doctors who perform these operations than for most rapists."
Other musicians like Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, Janelle Monáe and Waxahatchee also voiced their concern and disgust at the new laws, while TV personalities like Ellen DeGeneres and Jameela Jamil also spoke out.
See some of the criticism below.
take a look. these are the idiots making decisions for WOMEN in America.

if you're a man and you think that The Handmaid's Tale is a well-crafted show but maybe not the best way for a modern society to operate then it's a really good time to start speaking out against the current war on women's bodies/minds. we need your allyship.

I stand with the women in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, and everywhere, who have the right to decide what happens to their bodies, as we all do.

1 in 4 women have had an abortion. Many people think they don't know someone who has, but #youknowme. So let's do this: if you are also the 1 in 4, let's share it and start to end the shame. Use #youknowme and share your truth.

This anti-abortion law in Georgia is so upsetting, inhumane, and blatantly demonstrative of a hatred of women, a disregard for our rights, bodies, mental health, and essentially a punishment for rape victims, forcing to carry the baby of their rapist. https://t.co/WROYaLAwPG

Don't move forward after reading this like everything is normal. Don't shake your head at Alabama and then keep going about your day. Realize that this is a warning. It's Alabama and abortion today. It's you and your rights tomorrow. Your silence will not save you. So speak up. https://t.co/kIz78uAU1T
