While Rilo Kiley have remained inactive since the release of their 2007 album Under the Blacklight and its subsequent tour, no official statement has ever been released about the status of alt-folk indie rockers. Now, however, guitarist Blake Sennett has confirmed that the group are most definitely kaput.
"I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don't really want to submit myself to," he told Spinner. "I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, 'I'm not going to put myself in that position again,' so I said, 'Fuck that, I can't do this anymore.'"
He continued by pointing the finger at himself, too. "That being said, it was probably immature and that came from a place of ego. I think that stuff will rear its head in anything you do, depending on the personnel you surround yourself with; things change overtime and people change and relationships change."
Without naming anyone in particular, Sennett explained that internal band dynamics were straining. "Relationships, like Woody Allen said, are either moving forward or they're moving backwards, they either degrade or they grow and it was degrading to some certain extent in Rilo Kiley."
Despite the fallout, Sennett said that the group have a massive batch of unreleased songs that he would like to see released, saying that a two-disc set with 40 songs could come out one day, though details remain scarce.
