It's never easy for an ultimate party band such as Roach Motel to capture their energy onto disc, but Spend the Night does an ample job of displaying what makes this band such a joy to experience live. Their line-up defines their sound: acoustic guitar, tastefully funky bass, jazzy drums, '70s-style organ and clavinet, and a DJ. Together, they traverse through vintage funk and tiptoe on the edge of hip-hop. What makes Spend the Night a worthwhile listen is its diversity; it's not just one party jam after another. The songwriting still has some developing to do, but there's no point worrying about tomorrow when tonight sounds so damn good.
