Plenty of artists have guested on music-loving kids show Yo Gabba Gabba!, from Broken Social Scene to Biz Markie, but rarely does the show get to host a full-on reunion, as it did when iconic, horn-heavy San Diego outfit Rocket From the Crypt got together to film an episode last month.
A Facebook post from leader John "Speedo" Reis, who appears regularly on the program as "the Music Swami," confirms that the act reformed for their first performance since a supposed 2005 farewell gig in San Diego on Halloween. Don't go shining your Rocket-approved band logo tattoos in anticipation to get into an upcoming gig, though; the band only did it for the kids this once.
"Apparently no one got the email invites to witness the sole reunion performance of the defunct San Diego rock'n'roll band Rocket From the Crypt," Reis wrote, later reiterating that this was almost certainly an isolated incident. "We are only interested in playing to audiences of 5 to 10 people between the ages of 3 to 6. Although we were surprisingly tight and choreographed, we will most likely never play as a band ever again."
Reis confirmed that the act played cuts from their first four albums to a handful of three-year-olds, but wasn't sure if the toddlers appreciated seeing Speedo, bassist Petey X and the rest of the crew do their thing six years after they called it quits.
"One attendee was overheard saying 'I'm thirsty,'" Reis quipped.
But even if you missed out on the Rocket reunion, you can still catch Reis reliving the good times via those upcoming Hot Snakes reunion shows.
