Ron Hawkins

"Swamp" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 17, 2016

Ron Hawkins recently unveiled a video for his Spit Sputter and Sparkle cut "Till It Kills Ya," and now he's ready to share some more visuals — this time for "Swamp."

The track drew inspiration from a situation all too familiar to many of us — binge-watching Breaking Bad.

"Like a lot of folks the world over I spent a great deal of 2013 on the couch glued to a marathon run of Breaking Bad episodes," Hawkins tells Exclaim! "Simple entertainment… except for the fact that it seeps into your subconscious and you start dreaming of heat dancing across asphalt, vultures cycling ever smaller circles in the sky and what it means to be a docile member of a consumerist society. 'Swamp' came to me from these snippets of imagery thanks to Bryan Cranston and my innate thirst for revolution."

The accompanying video takes some obvious visual cues from the addictive TV show, opening with a shot of an RV amidst the desert and even mimicking the periodic table-inspired title cards. In addition to the Vince Gilligan homages, there's also footage of Hawkins and his band the Do Good Assassins performing live at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern.
