OVO Sound may be Toronto-focused, but it's one of Canada's greatest modern pop empires. Though not necessarily launched to reflect the Canada Day holiday, singer Roy Woods has just delivered his latest project: Waking at Dawn.
The 10-song release follows last year's Exis EP, and finds Woods' mellow croon gelling above silky synth tones on sultry jams like "Sonic Boom" and the snap-assisted, fast-rapped "You Love It." Elsewhere, he rifles off diamond-tip ad-libs and Snapchat stories on "Switch," and rides a coastal groove on "Gwan Big Up Yourself."
Woods' new Waking at Dawn release is streaming now via OVO Sound/Warner Bros. Records.
