Royal Wood Reveals 'Ghost Light'

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 16, 2015

Toronto-based singer-songwriter Royal Wood released his last LP The Burning Bright last year and then followed it up with a companion record called I Wish You Well. Keeping his prolific streak going, Wood has now unveiled plans to release a new full-length titled Ghost Light in 2016.

The album arrives on April 22 via MapleMusic Recordings and, according to a press release, will hear Wood delivering a more "raw take on life."

Wood's musical imprint can be heard all over the record, as he played almost 90 percent of the music himself, though the talents of special guests like Hannah Georgas and Felicity Williams of Bahamas also make appearances. Ghost Light was recorded between Toronto and Los Angeles, and was co-produced by Wood and Bill Lefler.

"This album for me was a full return to writing and recording simply for the joy of creation — like when I was a kid. A true letting go and allowing," said Wood in a statement. "I jumped around from instrument to instrument in the studio; playing piano and guitar solos, bass, keys, percussion, anything and everything I could get my hands on."

You can hear the first sampling of his reinvigorated creative spark by giving lead single "Long Way Out" a spin below. Scroll past the album's full tracklisting and Wood's upcoming tour dates to hear the new track.
