Röyksopp's Night Out

BY Rob WooPublished May 1, 2006

Recorded in their hometown of Oslo, Röyksopp have put together an EP of some great live performances featuring work from last year’s The Understanding, renditions of tracks from Melody A.M. and a cover of Queens of the Stone Age’s "Go with the Flow.” In concert they manage to bring new life to some of their older songs. For example, "Remind Me” is taken from sparse electro and dulcet singing to a thumping beat, thick synth chords and a modular vocal line — a distant sound from the original album version. Very little has been done with their more recent compositions and though it sounds fantastic, it doesn’t tread any new ground on from their 2005 album. The QOTSA cover is a good adaptation and definitely an enjoyable live track, but it feels like an unusual way to close out the EP. Although many of the songs are a little too true to the original, there’s no denying that Röyksopp put on a great show.
