We learned about the tense relationship between Ryan Adams and the Strokes earlier this year upon reading some excerpts from Lizzy Goodman's Meet Me in the Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City, 2001-2011, but it seems Adams is looking to bring the beef into the present.
Adams hopped online today (July 31) to claim that "Abert [sic] Hammond is a more horrible songwriter than his dad. If that's possible...As you were" in Gallagher-esque fashion. He also took aim at frontman Julian Casablancas, asking the Strokes singer, "who got you strung out on lasagna tho?"
Meet Me in the Bathroom revealed Casablancas was quick to blame Adams for enabling guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.'s drug habit, using pills, opiates and Oxycontin around the time the Strokes released Room on Fire in 2003.
"I remember Julian threatening to beat Ryan [Adams] up if he hung out with me, as a protective thing," Hammond Jr. recalled in the book. "He'd heard that Ryan would come and give me heroin, so he was just like, 'If you come to my apartment again with heroin, I'm going to kick your ass.' I hadn't really been doing it in baggie form until Ryan showed up. He was definitely a bad influence."
For Adams' part, he said, "It was easy to brand me as the problem. I would suspect that they soon learned that I was not the problem."
