Speedy Ortiz frontwoman Sadie Dupuis is gearing up to unleash her debut solo album under the name Sad13, and ahead of Slugger's arrival next month, she's shared another sample of what's to come.
Following up lead single "Get a Yes," Sad13 has offered up "Devil in U," giving fans a bit more insight into the laptop and synth-heavier sound that drives the upcoming album.
"It's about constraining your life to avoid conflict in the face of emotional abuse," Dupuis said in a statement. "You cut yourself off from your support systems and passions to prevent and assuage your partner's irrational reactions; you force yourself to fit another person's definition of 'angelic' so as not to provoke their 'devilish' side. But no devil is worth your care if they don't love and support you for who you are. And if the 'Devil in U' causes you to hurt someone you supposedly love, maybe you're just the devil, period."
Hear that hard-hitting message get delivered through manipulated guitars, whizzing synths and Dupuis's unmistakable vocals in the player below.
