Saint Etienne Unveil Single from First New Album in Seven Years

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 24, 2012

In recent years, Saint Etienne have been mostly preoccupied with reissues and remixes, and the English dance pop trio haven't released an album of original material since 2005's Tales of Turnpike House. That may soon change, as the group have shared a new single in preparation of a forthcoming LP.

The band posted a new song called "Tonight," with the message that this dance-worthy tune is the first single from the band's upcoming album. They wrote, "Like the album its taken from, 'Tonight' is all about the primal and atavistic pull that all good pop music exerts, about how the unadulterated thrill of a great band or gig can sometimes feel like a hotline straight to your heart."

The new song (and perhaps the album?) was produced was Tim Powell (Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys) and mixed by previous collaborator Richard X (M.I.A., Pet Shop Boys, Annie). According to Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley, "The whole album is about the power of pop, how it affected and shapes your life."

Stay tuned for updates about the long-running group's first album in seven years. The single comes via Heavenly/UMC, so the LP most likely will as well.
