Considering it's been almost four years since Burial dropped genre-defining LP Untrue, dubstep needed that second-wave of artists simply to validate its existence as a musical movement. Fortunately, youthful Londoners like James Blake, Jamie Woon and Katy B released landmark records in 2011, kicking off a sort of resurgence. The fact that SBTRKT (the impressive debut LP from Aaron Jerome) runs off such a singular sound proves that there is something in the soda water down at Plastic People. Like Blake, Jerome (aka SBTRKT) delivers a collection of songs that sound stylistically diverse from his early singles. Choosing to let his music slide rather than step, Jerome utilizes vocals from the soulful Sampha on tracks like "Hold On," "Right Thing to Do" and "Never Never," the playful Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon) on "Wildfire" and the sexy Roses Gabor on "Pharaohs," assuring that the parts on SBTRKT come off as just as dynamic as the whole.
