Sometimes a bunch of positives just dont add up the way they should. Take the sophomore album by Scarecrow Collection. Despite playing more than 300 shows in the past few years, building a dedicated fan base and honing their chops as a collective unit, they still dont have it together material-wise. Coming across like a crosspollination of Widespread Panic, Hootie and the Blowfish and Bruce Horsnby, Radio Frequency Collection is a well played and executed album that sounds a little too safe. The songs straddle the line between introspective and schmaltzy, often falling too far towards the latter. While theres no denying these musicians can play, its a little bit too "jam band lite for its own good.
