Last Friday (July 20), we learned that '90s indie rock greats Sebadoh were ready to drop a five-song EP on sometime soon. While band leader Lou Barlow announced the songs wouldn't appear on their upcoming full-length, he didn't offer up a solid release date for the Secret EP. The waiting game is over, though, as Sebadoh let loose the mini-effort this afternoon (July 23), marking their first new material in 14 years.
EP opener "Keep the Boy Alive" and "Arbitrary High" are sublimely fuzzy, Barlow-born sad-sack anthems that would fit well with anything post-Bakesale. "My Drugs" amps up the energy with a manic pace, some staccato crunch and extra distortion, while "I Don't Mind" wraps country-western accents into the slacker outfit's sound.
