Sectioned

Purulent Reality

BY Denise FalzonPublished Mar 8, 2010

It's hard to believe that Purulent Reality is Sectioned's debut LP. The English band's classic death-/thrash-style sounds as if they've been around for decades, rather than just a few years. The natural metal masters have stuck with the basics and created a record that's very much in the vein of Florida and Swedish death metal, packed full of brutal crunch, as well as intricate melody. They've taken hints from the likes of Death, Pestilence and Dismember, with Purulent Reality containing just the right amount of simplicity, coupled with a vast array of excellent riffs. Even though the record's seven tracks clock in at a total of 43 minutes, there's no duplication, just plenty of shredding guitar work that's completely different with each tune. Although Sectioned's sound isn't all that original, as far as classic death metal goes, there's something very creative and refreshing about Purulent Reality.
