Shabazz Palaces

'Lese Majesty' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 21, 2014

Next-level hip-hop adventurists Shabazz Palaces are set to make their royal return this month with Lese Majesty, but even before the sophomore LP hits stores, you can sample the airy soundscapes and wordplay in full on Exclaim.ca.

As previously reported, the double album has been described as an "18-track sonic mythmap of new black wave and ghetto psychedelics," with the record playing out as a seven-suite cycle. Throughout the self-produced LP, the group's Ishmael Butler and Tendai Maraire are joined by fellow Black Constellation compadres like THEESatisfaction's Catherine Harris-White, Erik Blood and Thadillac.

In addition to previously teased tracks like "#Cake" and "They Come in Gold," the player down below gives you an early peek at the diving shoegaze sonics and startling snare clacks of "Dawn in Luxor," the revolving speaker guitar work behind the pillow-talking "Noetic Noiromantics," the scientifically sound, experimental funk of "The Ballad of Lt Maj Winnings" and more.

If you're in Canada, hear it all below.

Lese Majesty officially drops July 29 via Sub Pop.

UPDATE: This stream was available for one week only and is no longer available.
