Shamir

"Darker" (video)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 5, 2015

After offering us up some helpful advice through a relationship hotline, Las Vegas singer Shamir is back to promoting forthcoming full-length Ratchet by traditional means. As such, you can check out the desert-locked, seemingly multi-day spirit journey that acts as a music video for the album's "Darker."

Set in California's Joshua Tree National Park, it finds Shamir isolated atop a cliff in the arid landscape, and weighing in on the highs and lows of life. As the backdrop shifts from midnight blue to being dappled by a blinding mid-day sun, the singer sums up positively, "It doesn't get darker, lest you expect it to."

You can sample the song — a moving, minimalist passage that pairs Shamir's stirring falsetto with low-volume keyboard tones and the occasional whirl of a helicopter blade — down below, where you'll also find a few North American tour dates.

Ratchet hits stores May 19 via XL Recordings.
