Sharon Van Etten has shared a video for a new song called "Used to It," her second single of 2022 after last month's "Porta." The video was directed by Van Etten's musical director and bandmate Charley Damski and features dancer and choreographer Hayden J Frederick.
Van Etten originally wrote "Used to It" for the HBO documentary Baby God, about a fertility specialist who impregnates women with his own sperm. "Ultimately, the film team changed their musical direction, but I found myself welcomely challenged to the idea of writing a song about the concept of family, connection through blood, nature vs nurture, while attempting to incorporate ideas of love and the complexities of science and technology," Van Etten said in a statement.
She continued: "I am grateful for this song to be able to have a new life, relating more to the times we have all been living through and redefining the meaning of this song by focusing on the positives of seeking connection and understanding what family means to the individual."
About the video, Van Etten said: "Together, they helped me convey the feelings of internal struggles, while also finding space for oneself and embracing that pain in order to move on."
Van Etten's last full-length album was 2019's Remind Me Tomorrow. Last year, she release epic Ten, which featured artists like Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams and more covering songs from 2010's Epic.
In July, she'll be heading out on a North America tour with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker.
