Shonen Knife Reunite with Original Drummer for 'Adventure'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 8, 2016

Long-running Japanese trio group Shonen Knife are about to treat us to their latest pop-rock adventure. Specifically, they'll be celebrating their 35th year together by releasing their 19th full-length record, Adventure. It hits Japanese retailer March 23 via Damnably Records, ahead of arriving in North America and European markets on April 1.

The new album is notable, as it features the return of drummer Atsuko Yamano into the fold, though she is now handling bass duties. She's joined by founder/guitarist/vocalist Naoko Yamano and drummer Risa, who replaced Emi Morimoto in 2015.

Adventure marks the band's first full-length release since 2014's Overdrive, and Yamano's first recordings with the group since 2005's Genki Shock.

An earlier statement from Shonen Knife noted that the record was tracked in Osaka, Japan, with the band noting in an update video that the album would be "more rock" than some of their more recent work.

A tracklisting has yet to be unveiled in full, but a stream of pop-rockin' first single "Jump Into the New World" can be found below, courtesy of Stereogum.

Shonen Knife are touring the UK this spring, while North American dates in support of Adventure have yet to be announced. You'll find the info on their current block of tour dates over here.
