Silkworm Documentary In the Works

BY Jess ZalamedaPublished Oct 4, 2007

Director Seth Pomeroy and producer Shawn Girvan, are in the midst of putting together a documentary on the now-defunct American indie rock band Silkworm. Couldn't You Wait? The Story of Silkworm follows the band as they establish themselves in the late 90's with releases on Matador and Touch and Go Records, through their disappearance from the spotlight with the death of drummer Michael Dahlquist in a 2005 car accident. Thus far, the yet-to-be-completed film features interviews with Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, producer Steve Albini, and Magnolia Electric Co.’s Jason Molina. Huge Silkworm fans, Pomeroy and Girvan are still looking to do two dozen or so interviews with notable musicians and label owners. The filmmakers have created a trailer to help raise the money they need to finish production. They are accepting donations to the project via this PayPal link.

In other Silkworm news, the band’s surviving members Tim Midgett and Andy Cohen have a new band called Bottomless Pit, which also features Seam's Chris Manfrin and .22's Brian Orchard. The Chicago-based quartet will release their debut album, Hammer of the Gods, on November 6 through New Jersey-based label Comedy Minus One.
