Working hybrid means I naturally spend a lot of afternoons singing whatever song is stuck in my head to my cat, Monty, changing certain lyrics to make it about him. A popular choice over the past few days has been the TikTok smash "McDonald's in the Pentagon" by Silly Stu; but in this house, there's a McDonald's in the Montagon.
I tell this story not just to provide you with a cat tax, but to evoke the goofiness of this track, which will rattle around your brain rent-free from the very first time you hear it onward. It's the kind of ska parody that makes people say that the genre is what plays in a 13-year-old boy's head when he gets an extra mozzarella stick. (Non-derogatory.) I also wouldn't be the first to say it sounds like something from Phineas and Ferb, but if you're wondering why the millennial/Gen Z cuspers are yearning to pick it up, look no further than the nostalgia cycle.
The original TikTok uploaded by @sillystu4u (née Al) has amassed over 10 million views, and ends with the line "You just dropped a cheque on McDonald's, not checking which one you that spent it on / Bitch, you hit the Pentagon!" It's good for a laugh while you're killing time before your shift ends — and before you ask, yes, apparently there actually is a McDonald's in the Pentagon.
