Simon & Garfunkel Cancel Western Dates on Their Canadian Tour

Published Apr 29, 2010

Western Canadian fans who shelled out big bucks to see Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel on their Old Friends in Concert tour will be waiting a little longer for that set of shows. Tour promoter Live Nation announced late Wednesday (April 28) that the duo would not be playing five scheduled Canadian dates on the tour.

Shows to take place today (April 29) in Vancouver, May 1 in Edmonton, May 2 in Calgary, May 4 in Saskatoon and May 5 in Winnipeg have all been postponed until further notice. Some are speculating that the cancellations are due to the 68-year-old Garfunkel's ailing vocal chords, which gave him severe trouble on the tour's first stop last Saturday (April 24) at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Reports on the show were "disappointing" due to Garfunkel's rough voice, according to Canoe.

So far, the Simon and Garfunkel shows in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal don't seem to be affected. Also, two dates in Halifax have been added to the tour since we first told you about it in early March.

The Old Friends in Concert tour is the duo's first road jaunt in over six years. New Western Canada dates and ticket info will be announced soon, Live Nation said in a press release.
