Olympics Torched!

BY Vish KhannaPublished Mar 24, 2008

The beleaguered IOC’s latest headache comes courtesy of Vancouverite Geoff Berner’s scathing new single, "Official Theme Song for the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympic Games (The Dead Children Were Worth It).” Available at geoffberner.com, the satiric anthem reflects BC residents’ anger at their government for slashing funds to accommodate the games. "It’s all about how BC shut down the office that investigates why children died there,” Berner specifies. "It had a four million dollar budget and so now, a lot of children who died in government care — we have no fucking idea why. As an artist in the 21st century I’ve gotta make a living, so when Premier Gordon Campbell begged me to write this song, I was like, ‘Okay boss.’ I abdicate all moral responsibility for it, frankly.”
