Skepta's work in music this year saw his fourth full-length Konnichiwa capture the 2016 Mercury Prize, but the grime MC has now hinted that a new film project may bring him out of the studio and onto the silver screen.
In an interview with Evening Standard, he revealed that plans are in the works to make a film surrounding his grime label and crew Boy Better Know, to which Canadian rap icon Drake is signed. In speaking briefly about the project, he said: "It's going to be about Boy Better Know but not in [a completely] autobiographical way."
Elsewhere in the interview, Skepta touched on his consulting role for a Drake-funded revival of the gritty crime drama Top Boy and putting his Mercury Prize winnings towards projects in his community. He also spent time mediating on his rising fame, revealing that Adele has been instrumental in providing him guidance.
"Adele texts me all the time and keeps me in check," he said. "She speaks to me about how things are going. She's one of the people I know that, from her [example] alone, you can move in a certain way where you're not inviting fame. She's the biggest artist in the world, bro, and you do not see her in the papers [every day]...with Drake and Adele, I'm happy firstly that they respect me as an artist and a man."
