Slint Song Used As Inspiration for Children's Book

Say what you will, but scaring the hell of kids is fun. Seriously, seeing that frightened look on their little faces, as well as the darkening patch on their pants that follows, is just priceless. And perhaps it’s for this reason that an illustrator has decided to turn Slint’s spine-tingling post-rock anthem "Good Morning Captain" into a children’s book.

With lines like "blood stained the icy wall of the shore" as inspiration, artist/dad David Stack has turned the Slint song into a 58-page bedtime story intended to inspire "children to stare down some of the nightly shadows they might fear.” According to the book’s description, the maritime-themed tale follows a young boy as he bravely struggles with bedtime as though cast adrift on scary seas, and most likely with repeated screams of "I MISS YOU!"

Stack’s book is available as a free PDF and as a physical release here. Buy or download it, and give kids the nightmares they deserve.
