Slow Jets

Worm Into Phoenix

BY Stuart GreenPublished Nov 1, 2000

Former Roads to Space Travel-ers Tim Baier and Roman Keubler have wasted no time in pulling together a new project after the demise of their brilliant art rock band. Reuniting with RTST's original bassist, Greg Preston, Baier and Keubler have come up with what is the antithesis of sorts to their previous band. Where RTST relied on dissonant guitar noodling, jagged jazz rhythms and nonsensical lyrics, Slow Jets is a fairly straightforward pop band. But old habits die hard and that old weirdness creeps in on tracks like "New Sour" and "Lance Wielde." Slow Jets sounds at times like a cross between Guided by Voices and Pere Ubu with a little '60s psychedelia dropped in for good measure.
