Making for a new indie-rock supergroup of sorts, members of Slowdive and the Flaming Lips are coming together for a new project called Beachy Head.
Today the band announced their debut self-titled album, which will arrive on April 30 via Graveface Records.
Formed in 2019, Beachy Head is led by Slowdive's Christian Savill, who enlisted several other notable players for the release. This includes his Slowdive bandmate Rachel Goswell (who sings a few tracks on the album), as well as Flaming Lips drummer Matt Duckworth, the Soft Cavalry's Steve Clarke and Ryan Graveface.
As a press release lays out, Savill sent a series of song sketches to his Beachy Head bandmates, with Clarke and Graveface fleshing them out in Savannah just before the pandemic struck. Duckworth then recorded drums, while Clarke added in extra touches between lockdowns in the UK and Goswell did some vocals.
As for the band name, the PR explains, "Beachy Head is a chalk cliff in Sussex. It's one of Britain's most popular beauty spots but also a notorious suicide spot."
