Small World Music has announced plans for this year's hybrid Global Toronto Music Conference — a music showcase and conference aimed at creating a "sustainable, equitable and accessible future for the music sector" — taking place online and in-person throughout the month of June.
Kicking off June 7 with pre-conference activities in Toronto, in-person events will run through to June 10. Virtual conference events will pick up June 20 to 22.
Artists showcasing at this year's conference include Ammoye, Ayrad, Buddha Beat (MY), Chuck Copenace, Exclaim! New Faves alum Clerel, Digging Roots, Djely Tapa, Donald Dogbo, Hawa B, Jeremy Ledbetter Trio, Joel Maripil (CL), John Orpheus, Joyce N'Sana, King Cardiac, Kuné, Marta Elena, MATEO, The Pairs, Purahéi Soul (PY), Ramon Chicharron, Rommel, Sauljaljui (TW), Zaki Ibrahim and Zaynab Wilson. See more info here.
Elsewhere, international and cross-country delegates will include a variety of artists, partners, members of the programming committee and a five-person jury — including Drake Hotel's Chris Wilson and Six Shooter Records' Kim Temple, among others — who are responsible for selecting showcase artists.
The June event will feature a mixture of panels, networking events, gatherings, keynote addresses and other activities. Online badges are valued at $75, with various PWYC options to encourage accessibility; interested parties can apply to attend in-person activities as attendance is limited due to COVID-19 and venue restrictions. See more information on registration here.
"We think that [Global Toronto 2022] is going to be a fantastic experience on the artistic front, and will continue to move the music sector forward," SWM Head of Programs, Mercedes Caxaj, said in a release. "After asking, last year, 'Now what?' this year, we dig into the ways that we don't just rebuild: we drop the 're' and get to work on something new, together."
