The Smalls' reunion plans have got bigger as of late, as the Alberta metal fusionists' summer festival engagements have led to a full-on Canadian fall tour. During this autumnal outing, a pair of Calgary filmmakers will join the band on the road to make a documentary.
Directed by John Kerr and Trevor Smith — operating under the banner Crowsnest Films — a press release says that the flick will be a "feature-length experimental documentary." It is quite ambitious in scope, since "It will be a full-length cinematic study of a moment in time, of memory itself, and look back at the spectacle that was."
Smith in particular has close ties to the Smalls; he has played hockey with the band, recorded some of their early music videos and shows, and directed several videos for member Corb Lund's solo material. Most recently, he made the outfit's reunion promo video (which can be seen at the bottom of this page).
There's no word as to exactly when the film will be done, but obviously it will have to wait until after their tour is done. See the schedule below; it's been further expanded since the last time we checked in with the band.
