Snake River

'Sun Will Rise' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 26, 2016

Snake River brought us Songs from the Adjacent Room last year, and now the Regina-based psych-folk outfit are set to unveil a new record called Sun Will Rise. The LP doesn't officially arrive until September 2, but Exclaim! is giving you a chance to listen to it in its entirety right now.

The LP picks up where the last one left off, delving deeper into the world of protagonist Reginal McKruski, an author residing in the fiction town of Snake River Mountain. This time the action is set between February 2 and 23, 1989, and the stories are told in the form of McKruski's internal dialogue.

The narrative perspective is accompanied by a slight musical shift as well, with the band taking things in a "darker and heavier" direction than the breezy psych-infused cuts on the last album. Regardless, there is still hope sprinkled throughout our hero's story, with frequent references to the sun providing glimmers of optimism across the seven new songs.
