Newly minted marshmallow-roaster Snoop Dogg is putting down another Never-Have-I-Ever finger: reporting for primetime coverage of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Depending on how specific the question asked, the rapper and mogul may have already been able to say he was an Olympic commentator, having teamed up with Kevin Hart to offer input on a few highlights from the Tokyo Games in 2021. During this segment, Snoop produced a viral clip with his commentary on the dressage competition, where he said a horse was Crip-walking. (It was actually performing a half-pass, if my former horse-girl knowledge serves.)
Needless to say, NBC was impressed — to the point where it gave Snoop a solo gig as its Special Correspondent for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. "That performance alone has earned Snoop a job as our Special Correspondent in Paris," Molly Solomon, Executive Producer and President of NBC's Olympics Production, said in a statement. "We don't know what the heck is going to happen every day, but we know he will add his unique perspective to our re-imagined Olympic primetime show."
The rapper added in a statement of his own, "I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris. It's a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness. We're going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It's going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned, and keep it locked."
The news was first announced during the halftime portion of the Sunday Night Football game this past weekend, because sports. Having already filmed a few promo videos with some Team USA athletes, Snoop will also interact regularly with sportscaster Mike Tirico.
