If there's anything that the UK's decade-end music figures have taught us, it's this: the Brits prefer their rock when it's soft and sentimental. We previously reported that James Blunt's Back to Bedlam was the number one selling album of the decade. Now the licensing group PPL has revealed that the nation's most played song of the past ten year's is Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars."
The song was released in 2006 after appearing on the Irish band's fourth album Eyes Open. According to ChartStats.com, it has never entered the top five in sales, but has remained in the top 100 for over three years.
Of course, PPL doesn't measure sales, instead focusing on "plays on UK radio, television, online and in public." Given this set of criteria, it's not surprising that "Chasing Cars" came out on top, given the song's prominent placement in TV show soundtracks.
The second most played song was "Shine" by Take That, while Scissor Sisters' "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" came in at No. 3.
