Society One

Slacker Jesus

BY Matt MernaghPublished Aug 1, 1999

From being a porno director to fronting an industrial strength metal band, it seems Matt Zane is able to cross boundaries with ease. Slacker Jesus use sex vibrations, hardcore electronica and metal riffage to create an aggressive sound usually reserved for the Nine Inch Nails. At any moment, Slacker Jesus could fall apart from the industrial-metal noise, but Society One ensures that it doesn’t happen. From the start with “Get My Back” through to the end with “Struggle Free” the album is a mess of great unruly noise. In the midst of this creation, Zane is able to keep the pace intense while not losing control of the sounds around him. They entice the listener into an industrial-metal foreplay for the length of the album, waiting until the end to release them into a orgasm of brilliant sounds.
