Spencer Dickinson

The Man Who Lives For Love

BY Rob NayPublished Oct 1, 2006

After putting Blues Explosion on the shelf to dive into the rockabilly ballad pool with Heavy Trash, Jon Spencer returns with a blast of wild sounds with his Spencer Dickinson outfit. Luther and Cody Dickinson from the North Mississippi All-Stars expertly collaborate with Spencer here and the result is collection of tunes that strut and wail from start to finish. With a soulful rumble that occasionally recalls Spencer’s work on the Blues Explosion’s Extra Width disc, this album, co-produced by revered Memphis musician Jim Dickinson, pulses with a consistent electric charge. Originally released only in Japan, the North American version of The Man Who Lives For Love features seven additional songs that beef up the disc to well over an hour of strong music. Stretching from slow burning blues to quick-footed rave-ups, Spencer Dickinson offer highly engaging sounds.
