Spencer Krug Delves into 'Organ Music' on Debut Moonface LP

With Wolf Parade in some sort of hiatus-like state, we knew that the band members would have more time for their many side-projects. Singer Dan Boeckner has a new Handsome Furs album on the way, and now co-frontman Spencer Krug has announced that he will be returning to his Moonface solo project.

On August 2, Jagjaguwar will release Moonface's debut LP, Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped. Like his prior Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums, the title of this one should be self-explanatory, as it features songs performed on a vintage double-manual organ.

In a press release, Krug wrote that he originally intended the album to be a "long, drone-filled, lush and noisy album of intense volume and beauty and poeticism." Instead, he ended up gravitating towards structured songs with melodies, and the result is "something between pop and lush drones."

The album has five songs and clocks in at 37 minutes. Krug described it as "music played with an organ, organ beats, organ beeps and bloops, and some digital drums. Music based on layers and loops, the hypnotizing sound of a leslie speaker, and the onslaught of melody."

Krug will also be taking Organ Music on a North American tour in July and August. There are currently three Canadian dates in Toronto, London and Montreal. Once that's done, he will be recording with Finish group Siinai and will work on "new percussion recordings and performances with my friend Mike Bigelow" (who will also be helping Krug translate Moonface to the stage on tour).
