Spoon's next LP is apparently on the way sometime soon, and reports have now surfaced that the longtime indie outfit will be their first for major label affiliate Loma Vista.
While nothing has been confirmed by either the band or the label, a subsidiary of Universal's Republic Records branch, Billboard reports that "two sources" have confirmed the deal. Representatives from Universal have also recently been in touch with Exclaim! about the band.
Though an ETA for the as-yet-untitled album has not been determined, the group posted in March that they were "less than a week away from a finished album" and revealed a song snippet earlier this month.
Back in 2013, vocalist/guitarist Britt Daniel had noted that the upcoming set was "slightly more R&B" than previous efforts, with working titles for tracks including "The Rent I Pay," "Naff Bag," "Millionaires," "Let Me Be Mine," "Modern Girls," "I Ain't the One," "Fresh From Your Pages" and "Give Me It."
Prior to the move to Loma Vista, Spoon had spent over a decade on Merge Records, issuing five celebrated full-lengths and various singles through the imprint. Their last LP for the label was 2010's Transference. Prior to that, the group had delivered records in the '90s through Matador and major label Elektra.
