Spotify Jokes About Spiritbox/Poppy Grammys Mix-Up

They conflated both members of "metal royalty" on a playlist

Just days before we revealed Spiritbox as the cover stars of our March 2025 issue, the band were at the Grammys, where singer Courtney LaPlante was mistaken for fellow metal singer Poppy by a journalist. The comments on our recent posts prove how memeable the moment was, and apparently, Spotify agrees.

To play along with the trolls, the streaming giant used a photo of LaPlante on the cover of their "Kickass Metal" playlist, and gave it the description "Poppy on top of today's best Metal playlist." Of course, both Spiritbox and Poppy are featured.

The setup happened on the Grammys red carpet, where a reporter approached LaPlante and called her "Metal royalty, Poppy." Before LaPlante could correct her, the reporter mistook her pout for shyness, saying, "No, you are. You got nominated against Judas Priest, who I just talked to, and Metallica."

At that point, LaPlante decided to go along with it, saying, "I am Poppy and I am really happy to be here nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win... Would love to take home the Grammy for Knocked Loose and myself. Because I would be the first woman to win this award... I hope it's me, or Spiritbox and Courtney."

As hilarious as this situation is, we hope that some grace is shown to the journalist, as it must be overwhelming reporting somewhere with no real system of telling you who's who. Check out the playlist cover and the mishap below.
