St. Vincent

"Power Corrupts" (Japanese bonus track)

This past Friday (October 13), St. Vincent released her excellent new album MASSEDUCTION, and now we can hear title track "Masseduction" in a very different form. The Japanese version of the album features a bonus track called "政権腐敗" (which translates as "Power Corrupts") and it has made its way online.

The song features some of the same elements as the album version of "Masseduction," including the Japanese-language shouts in the intro and the vocoded chorus repetitions of "mass seduction." Japanese musician Toko Yasuda (who played in the New York band Enon) delivers lead vocals, while the instrumental palette has been tweaked to highlight squelchy synth bass.

Listen to the song below.
