Sub Pop Signs Spoek Mathambo

After time fronting the electro rap group Sweat.X, South African DJ and rapper Spoek Mathambo released his solo debut, Mshini Wam, last year. Now, the artist will likely experience a much higher profile with his next release, as he has signed with venerable indie label Sub Pop.

Sub Pop will kick off their relationship with Mathambo with the release of his Put Some Red On It EP. In addition to the title track, the seven-song release contains an intro, an outro and remixes of the title track from Shabazz Palaces and Machinedrum. The release also includes remixes of the song "Dog to Bone" from Telepathe and Rashad. The original "Dog to Bone" features Hella's Zach Hill.

Put Some Red On It will be available in late July as a digital-only release from Sub Pop. The song "Put Some Red on It" can be heard below, and a full-length Spoek Mathambo album is expected in the near future.
