Sublime are about to be the subject of their very own graphic novel. Titled Sublime: $5 at the Door, the illustrated release is expected to arrive this summer via Z2 Comics.
Described as "Xanadu meets Superbad," the comic was created to "[celebrate] the iconic legacy" of the band, and details the early moments of their formation. The 120-page $5 at the Door was written by Ryan Cady and illustrated by Audrey Mok, Logan Faerber, Hayden Sherman, Alex Diotto, Bill Masuku, Robert Ahmad and Julianne Griepp.
"When you grow up in SoCal like I did, Sublime's music is this powerful background radiation, permeating the culture," Cady said in a statement [via Rolling Stone]. "You hear it everywhere. Opie's sun is everywhere — stickers of it slapped on taco stand walls, Sharpie-tagged inside of every high school bathroom, screen-printed in every possible iteration. I saw these guys like neighbours, and as I research the human moments underneath their phenomenon with Bud and Eric, I get to share that feeling with everyone who picks up the book."
The release will come in softcover, hardcover, special deluxe and limited-edition super deluxe formats, with the latter two including the first-ever vinyl pressing of the band's Doin' Time EP, as well as prints and a Dalmatian figurine.
