Now that D.O.A. have fully confirmed that they've come out of their brief retirement, the Vancouver punk rock progenitors are dusting off another part of their legacy. A new pressing of the outfit's Positively D.O.A. EP arrives through band leader Joey "Shithead" Keithley's Sudden Death Records imprint on November 25.
Originally delivered through Alternative Tentacles in 1981, the five-song set is being given a 33rd anniversary reissue through Sudden Death on CD and 7-inch vinyl. This will be the first time Positively D.O.A. has been pressed up since 1984.
A press release notes that the record had been issued just ahead of D.O.A.'s first UK tour and features "five classic anthems packed into its grooves." This includes political punk cut "Fucked Up Ronnie" (later re-recorded as "Fucked Up Baby"), Something Better Change closer "World War Three," "New Wave Sucks" and more. You'll find the full tracklisting down below.
As previously reported, D.O.A. are in the middle of their "True North Strong and Free" Canadian tour, with upcoming dates to come in Ontario, BC and Alberta.
Preserving Vancouver punk rock history beyond D.O.A., Keithley will also be delivering a 35th anniversary pressing on 12-inch and CD of the Modernettes' Teen City EP on December 9. A press release explains that this will be the first time the trio's six-song set of pop-tinged punk tunes has been pressed since its initial release on Quintessence Records in 1979. This is a boon for classic punk fans, since vinyl copies of the record are going for over $150 on Discogs.
The record was produced by a young Bob Rock (Metallica) and features cuts like the bouncy "Barbra" and teen angst anthem "Confidential." The record includes the classic lineup of guitarist/vocalist Buck Cherry (a.k.a. John Armstrong), bassist Mary Jo Kopechne and drummer John "Jughead" Mc Adams. You'll find the video for "Barbra" down below.
