The debut EP from BC's Sun Wizard puts the band firmly in the same field as fellow Vancouverites Yukon Blonde, channelling Neil Young and the Band via the Strokes and Tom Petty. Not that that's a knock against the quartet ― far from it. All five tracks are instantly memorable slabs of classic pop rock, filled with laidback grooves and jammy mid-sections. If there's a complaint to be made, it's that Sun Wizard have yet to develop a personality that's going to separate them from their peers. There are many bands treading the same ground and as good as these five tracks are, they're not great enough to stand on their own. But that's a lot to ask from a band that's been together for barely a year, and these guys may be on track to something big.
