The last we heard from long-running Britpoppers Supergrass, the Oxford-based band were working on their seventh album, with some flicking slogans on their official website hinting that the new record would be called Release the Drones and would be released via Cooking Vinyl. Well, it looks as if we may never get to hear the new recordings, as the band have announced that they will be disbanding.
In a statement, the band cited a "seventeen year itch" has the reason for the breakup, writing, "Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on. Of course we all wish each other well in the future."
Given that they're breaking up due to "music differences," we're guessing that the new album wasn't going too well.
Supergrass will be playing four farewell dates in June, performing their final show in Paris on June 11.
Tour dates:
6/8 Glasgow, Scotland - Barrowland
6/9 Manchester, England - Academy
6/10 London, England - O2 Brixton Academy
6/11 Paris, France - La Cigalle
