Sviraj

Ciganine

BY Paul CrowleyPublished Feb 1, 2001

Straight outta Steelton, Pennsylvania - with a sound that owes more to Transylvania - Sviraj carries flame for Tambouritza, a type of traditional Balkan music. The playing is solid on Ciganine, and the boys manage to keep the schmaltz to a minimum. Vocal harmonies carry most of the songs, with intricate violins giving texture and a bass and guitar providing the lilting backbone for it all.
