Swervedriver's Franklin and Wolf Parade's Boeckner Cover Each Other For Seven-Inch

In what seems an unlikely but understandable pairing, Swervedriver’s Adam Franklin and the Handsome Furs will be engaging in a little cover action on a new seven-inch split. Via Vancouver’s White Whale Records, Franklin will be filling the a-side with a cover of "Shine a Light,” a track by Handsome Furs’ beloved parent project, Wolf Parade. On the flip side, the Furs’ Dan Boeckner will be reinterpreting a yet-to-be-announced track from Franklin’s recently reformed ’90s shoegaze act, all making for a single that definitely falls into the awesome category.

For Swervedriver devotees, Franklin’s take on "Shine a Light” may ring a few bells. The Wolf Parade cover was originally supposed to appear on his solo disc, Bolts of Melody, but somehow never made the cut. Also, Franklin has been closing shows with the song for quite a while now and briefly posted his lush, intimate version of the song on his MySpace a little while back.

As for Boeckner, when the Montreal songwriter and long-time Swervedriver fan heard Franklin had done a cover of his song, he was more than eager to return to the favour. "When I was 12, if you told me Adam Franklin would cover one of my songs in the future I would have freaked!” said Boeckner, who jumped on the opportunity to redo one of Franklin’s songs for White Whale’s release.

Franklin’s cover of "Shine a Light” is available on iTunes now, but the limited-edition split seven-inch is expected to hit sometime early this summer and will be up for grabs via White Whale’s online shop.
