T-Pain

Epiphany

BY Pierre HamiltonPublished Jul 18, 2007

Five tracks into this disc, a woman reveals to T-Pain — in a musical interlude — that she has H.I.V. He blames her at first, before relenting and saying they’ll get through it together. The next song is "Suicide.” And two songs later he’s "about to pull over” and give some unidentified girl "the business” in the backseat of his ride. Still interested? If that’s not enough of a turn-off, on every song he runs his voice through a vocoder, which gives it the same annoying, high-pitched synthesiser whine as Akon’s. This is most effective/disturbing on "Bartender,” which features Akon, but is more grating on the loopy, time travel themed "Time Machine.” If you need to "bust a nut” to some soulless R&B, or have recently fallen for your bartender or a stripper, this Epiphany is for you.
