It's been 30 years since art rock visionaries Talking Heads and Jonathan Demme teamed up to produce the legendary Stop Making Sense concert film, and the anniversary will be celebrated by a new digital release of the movie and an upcoming series of screenings across North America.
Palm Pictures had previously issued the 1984 concert flick, recorded over three days at Hollywood, CA's Pantages Theater in 1983, on DVD and Blu-ray, but have now revealed plans to issue the film as a digital release on July 15.
Ahead of Palm's latest reissue, though, Stop Making Sense will be making it to cinema houses North America wide, having started its tour last weekend in Ithaca, NY. Along the way, the film will be screened in Vancouver and Kingston, ON, though not all of the details on the where and when have been revealed. You can see the schedule as is down below.
Employing long shots, a stage-building conceit and eschewing excessive audience footage, Demme's Stop Making Sense captured the band performing classic tracks like "Psycho Killer," "Heaven," "Once in a Lifetime" and "Take Me to the River," and features vocalist David Byrne performing in his iconic "big suit."
