Beloved throat singer Tanya Tagaq — who has notably collaborated with Björk and Kronos Quartet, among others — is set to return with her "angry" new album Animism later this month. For more of a taste, she's released a trailer for the record.
Though it's only a minute and a half long, the trailer for Animism offers plenty to dig into. The song "Umingmak" is showcased as a collision of throat singing and off-kilter post-punk drums. Visually, its icy and intense, pairing footage from the film Tungijuq with shots of Tagaq wearing some clear contact lenses.
Watch the trailer for Animism below. The album arrives on May 27 via Six Shooter Records.
