With her third album So Close to What, Calgary's Tate McRae has become the first Canadian woman to top the Billboard 200 chart in the 2020s with the release of the latest metrics dated March 8.

The pop star joins the ranks of Céline Dion, who most recently topped the chart in 2019 with Courage, as well as Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain and Nelly Furtado. McRae is also the first woman from the province of Alberta to have a Billboard No. 1 album. (Fort Macleod-hailing Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark and Miles of Aisles each hit the runner-up spot between 1974 and 1975.)

Despite a lot of online debate about whether the music matches the calibre of her dancing, McRae has concurrently landed 11 songs from the collection on this week's edition of the Billboard Hot 100. The single "Sports car" hit a new high, up from No. 57 to No. 16, while "Revolving door," the Kid LAROI collaboration "I know love," "Dear god," "Miss possessive" and more have made their debut.
